Tools that work
Responsible gambling
Gambling is entertainment with a built-in cost, not a way to make money. The house edge is permanent; no system, session length or staking pattern removes it. Everything below assumes you already know that and want the practical controls.
- Deposit limits โ set daily, weekly or monthly caps in your account. Increases usually take effect only after a delay; decreases usually apply at once.
- Session reminders โ a prompt every thirty or sixty minutes, the cheapest reality check available.
- Loss and stake limits โ where offered, they bind harder than intentions.
- Cooling-off โ a short break, typically days to weeks, that cannot be reversed early.
- Self-exclusion โ a long or permanent close-out at the operator level.
- National self-exclusion registers โ some countries run a register that applies across participating operators rather than one site at a time; check what exists in New Zealand.
- Bank-level gambling blocks โ many banks worldwide can block gambling transactions on your card or account, often with a deliberate delay before the block can be lifted.
